Celebrating the past by looking to the future

The 3rd edition of the “Current Concepts on Head and Neck Cancer” meeting, taking place on April 11th -13th, 2024, is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Portuguese Institute of Oncology at Porto. In honor of the institutional mission of promoting the constant updating of knowledge, teaching and research, “Celebrating the past by looking to the future” is the purpose, for which we have a panel of experts in the area of Head and Neck Cancer from MD Anderson Cancer Center, reviving what was once a tradition at IPO Porto. Renata Ferrarotto, Jack Phan, Ehab Hanna and Rene Largo join Jatin Shah, who once again chairs the meeting. MD Anderson and MSKCC in Portugal to promote the sharing of experience in the treatment of Head and Neck Cancer, namely Cancer of the Oral Cavity, Oropharynx, Thyroid, Salivary Glands and Skin. It is in this multidisciplinary environment that we welcome you, including all those who dedicate themselves to patients with Head and Neck Cancer.

A 3ª edição da reunião “Current Concepts on Head and Neck Cancer”, a decorrer nos dias 11 a 13 de Abril de 2024, integra as comemorações dos 50 anos do Instituto Português de Oncologia do Porto. Em homenagem à missão institucional de promover a actualização constante de conhecimentos, o ensino e a investigação, “Celebrating the past by looking to the future “ é o propósito, para o qual contamos com um painel de experts na área de Cancro da Cabeça e Pescoço do MD Anderson Cancer Center, revivendo aquilo que já foi uma tradição no IPO Porto. Renata Ferrarotto, Jack Phan, Ehab Hanna e Rene Largo juntam-se a Jatin Shah, que mais uma vez preside a reunião. MD Anderson e MSKCC em Portugal para promover a partilha de experiência no tratamento do Cancro da Cabeça e Pescoço, nomeadamente Cancro da Cavidade Oral, Orofaringe, Tiroide, Glândulas Salivares e Pele. É neste ambiente multidisciplinar que vos recebemos, contando com todos aqueles que se dedicam aos doentes com Cancro da Cabeça e Pescoço.

On Saturday, we promote the discussion of clinical cases, in an informal environment during a tour on the Douro River to Pinhão. During the morning, national guests will present clinical cases, covering the various areas of head and neck pathology, so that we can comment on them together with our panel of experts from MD Anderson and MSKCC. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to talk more freely with our international guests, share experiences and enjoy the scenery.

Clinical Cases Submission

The organizing committee of the 3rd Edition of the Current Concepts in Head and Neck Cancer challenges all national teams to submit a clinical case for discussion with our international experts in the session Meet the Professor. All cases of malignant pathology of the head and neck area including skin, thyroid and salivary glands will be considered. The case summary must be submitted electronically for the email eventos@lab52.pt, using the template available at the bottom of this page until March 23, 2024, at 24 hours. The text of the abstract, which must be in English, should not exceed 3000 characters, and should mention the relevance of the case. At least, one of the authors of the paper must be registered at the meeting and will be informed of the result of the selection by March 27.

The organizing committee will select the most pertinent one(s) for presentation on Saturday, April 13th, along with those already foreseen in the program, offering the first author the possibility to present his case and team to our panel of international guests, as well as the possibility of participating, free of charge, in the session Meet the professor. The rules for presentation will follow later.

All submissions will be recognized as “Clinical Case Submission” at the meeting and the winner(s) as “Oral Communication”.

A comissão organizadora da 3º edição da reunião Current Concepts in Head and Neck Cancer desafia todas as equipas nacionais a submeterem um caso clínico para discussão com os nossos experts internacionais no “Meet the Professor”. Serão considerados todos os casos de patologia maligna da área de cabeça e pescoço incluindo pele, tiróide e glândulas salivares. O resumo do caso deve ser submetido por via electrónica para o email eventos@lab52.pt, utilizando o template disponível no final desta página, até dia 23 de março de 2024, às 24 horas. O texto do resumo, obrigatoriamente em inglês, não deverá ultrapassar os 3000 caracteres, devendo referir a pertinência do caso. Pelo menos 1 dos autores do trabalho deverá estar inscrito na reunião e será informado do resultado da seleção até dia 27 de março.

A comissão organizadora seleccionará o(s) que considerar mais pertinentes para apresentação no sábado, dia 13 de abril, juntamente com os já previstos no programa, oferecendo ao primeiro autor a possibilidade de apresentar o seu caso e equipa ao nosso painel de convidados internacionais, assim como a possibilidade de participar, gratuitamente, no “Meet the Professor”. As normas para apresentação seguirão posteriormente.

Todas as submissões serão reconhecidas como “Submissão de Caso Clínico” na reunião e o(s) vencedor(es) como “Comunicação Oral”.

E-Poster Submission

In order to disclose clinical research in Portugal, on head and neck cancer, skin and thyroid cancer, the organization invites the various working groups to share clinical trials being recruited in the form of an e-poster.
The topic of the work must be in line with the theme of the meeting, and at least one of the researchers must be registered at the congress. The e-poster must be created using the template available at the bottom of this page, in a 16:9 format (1920 x 1080 pixels, vertical position).
The e-poster must be sent electronically to the email eventos@lab.52.pt in PowerPoint and PDF format by March 23, 2024 until 24h. The notification of its acceptance will be communicated by March 27, 2024.
The selected e-posters will be displayed during the meeting on 11th and 12th of April.

De forma a divulgar a investigação clínica em Portugal em cancro de cabeça e pescoço, pele e tiróide, a organização convida os vários grupos de trabalho para partilharem os ensaios clínicos em recrutamento sob a forma de e-poster.
O tema subjacente ao mesmo deverá enquadrar na temática da reunião, devendo pelo menos um dos investigadores estar inscrito no congresso.
O e-poster deverá ser executado através da utilização do template disponível no fundo desta página, numa proporção de 16:9 (1920 x 1080 pixels, posição vertical).
O e-poster deverá ser submetido via electrónica para o e-mail eventos@lab.52.pt em formato PowerPoint e PDF até dia 23 Março de 2024 às 24h, sendo efectuada a comunicação da sua aceitação até ao dia 27 Março 2024.
